OTS Media Brings Home Eight Statewide STAR Awards

Columbia- WRHI’s parent company, OTS Media, was honored with 8 Statewide STAR Awards at the annual South Carolina Broadcaster’s Association Awards Ceremony in Columbia.  Sportscaster Chris Miller won his record 9th consecutive Statewide Sportscaster of the Year by bringing home the STAR Award in the category.  WRHI’s team of Steven Stone, Matthew Kreh, Lucas McFadden and Patti Mercer were awarded with the STAR Award for “Convergence Coverage” of the horrific shooting in January that took the life of Sgt. Mike Doty and injuries to 3 other officers.  The entry, titled Sgt Doty: Forever our Hero featured WRHI’s breaking news coverage and a combination of radio and other medias.

Catherine Madden, Johnathon Brown, and Jay Taylor combined on Johnathon Brown Electric’s commercial entitled “I like Big Fans” which brought home the STAR Award for Radio Commercial. In the Public Service Announcement category, WRHI won the STAR Award for “Toys For Happiness 2018” which featured the “WRHI Kids”. WRHI had a clean sweep in the Promo category with “Easter Egg Classic 2018” bringing home the STAR (Allan Miller and Jay Taylor) and the Award of Merit went to Boo-HaHa 2017 (Allan Miller and Steven Stone).

In addition, WRHI’s Straight Talk w/ Manning Kimmel received the Award of Merit in the brand new Public Affairs Program category and “Toys For Happiness” was honored with the Award of Merit in one of the night’s biggest categories, The Richard Uray Service Project Of the Year.

The event, which features the top Radio and Television stations in South Carolina, saw WLTX-TV (Columbia) named the Television Station of the Year and WYRD-AM/FM (Greenville) picked up the Radio Station of the Year.
