Vietnam Veterans were honored in different parts of the country yesterday a year after President Donald Trump officially signed the Vietnam War Recognition Act of 2017.
Col. Melinda Woohurst of Lancaster served in the Army for 26 years and is the current Veteran’s Service Officer for York County Veterans. She said she is blown away by the goodwill of the local community towards veterans.
There are about 28 thousand veterans in York County and they have assisted 75 veterans since August of last year.
Hundreds of people gathered at the South Carolina Statehouse in Columbia as well for a ceremony. Channel 9’s Greg Suskin was in Columbia and talked to a number of those veterans.
More than 300 Vietnam veterans are now dying each day. Organizers of the event at the Statehouse told Channel 9 that many vets would never come to events like this one. They are now working to find them and tell them their country appreciates what they did.
