Today the South Carolina Broadcasters Association honored John Spratt, a man who was instrumental in getting the FCC to allow low power FM translators to rebroadcast AM signals.
For his accomplishment he was awarded the 2016 Honorary Life Membership Award at Winthrop University.
OTS Media pioneered the pursuit of the translators for use by AM stations back in 2001 and with the help of Spratt it was 2007.
At the time Spratt was a Chairman of the House of Budget committee, which gave him some pulling power.
These translators are now commonly used in the radio industry.
