Kevin Cook is no longer the coach of the Winthrop women’s basketball team. The program announced in a release earlier today that the team and Cook have mututally and amicably agreed to part ways effective immediately.
Cook was indefinitely suspended for a personnel matter on January 25th. He was the University’s Head Women’s Basketball Coach since the 2012-13 season and led Winthrop to its first NCAA Tournament appearance and its first WNIT win.
“I would like to thank Coach Cook for his years of service to our Women’s Basketball program and everyone at Winthrop University wishes him the best in his future endeavors on and off the court.” said Director of Athletics Ken Halpin.
In announcing his separation from the University, Coach Cook said, “I have enjoyed coaching many fine student-athletes at Winthrop. I am proud of the success those student-athletes achieved on and off the court. As I move forward to other basketball opportunities, I will always pull for Eagle Athletics to succeed.”
A reason was not given for the split. Current acting head coach Lynette Woodard will finish the season as Interim head coach.
