ROCK HILL, SC—Winthrop junior forward Xavier Cooks has been tabbed the Big South Conference Men’s Basketball Player of the Week.
Cooks averaged 17.5 points and 16.5 rebounds to help the Eagles earn wins in both of their contests last week. It is the second time this season he’s received the weekly Big South honor.
The week started with a trip to Longwood as Cooks scored 21 points and pulled down a career-high 20 rebounds. It was the first 20/20 game by an Eagle since Tyrone Walker did it in December of 2003 against Western Michigan with 24 points and 20 rebounds.
Cooks wrapped up the week with another double-double as he posted 14 points and 13 rebounds in the team’s win over first-place Liberty. The double-double was the nine of the season.
In the two games Cooks combined to go 13-for-25 from the floor and 8-for-10 at the foul line while also averaging 3.5 assists and 2.0 blocks.
