SC-DHEC this afternoon announced that 5 elderly York County individuals had passed away from COVID-19. All but one of the deaths were from the month of August with the other coming in early July. Lancaster had 2 deaths and Chester had 1. They were part of 52 confirmed by SC-DHEC. The death total is now 2,339.
Cases rose for the fourth consecutive day to 967. 43 were in York Co, 25 were in Lancaster Co. and 8 were in Chester Co. The percent positive dropped to 13% as just over 7,300 people were tested. The recovery rate for the virus dropped 2 percentage points to 89%. That means of the 109,135 cases since the pandemic began there are 11,747 active cases and 95,048 people have recovered.
