Save Winthrop Tennis yesterday afternoon released a statement saying they are deeply saddened and disagree with many points raised by Interim President George W. Hynd in his letter, Tuesday afternoon, when he said they have ‘no intention’ of bringing back the tennis programs.
The group says they understand that the Board is consumed with coronavirus related financial and operational woes, but believes the teams should have had the opportunity to fundraise for themselves.
They believe they deserved to have their self sustaining plan for reinstatement be heard along with its accompanying fundraising efforts, which sit at nearly 800-thousand dollars.
The letter says it saddens them that the nationally relevant tennis programs have become an issue rather than an opportunity to work together to find a solution.
