SC-DHEC announces 2,205 new cases of COVID-19, 23 additional deaths, recovery rate rises to 92%

2,205 new cases of the coronavirus were announced Tuesday afternoon by SC-DHEC. 43 were in York County, 26 were in Lancaster County and 8 were in Chester County. 10,262 people were tested for the virus on Monday and 21.5% tested positive.

23 additional deaths were also announced, including one to an elderly Lancaster Co. individual. Of the other 22, 13 were elderly individuals and 9 were middle-aged individuals. The death total is now 984.

The recovery rate for the virus has risen to 92%. This means of the 60,220 total cases of COVID-19 in South Carolina, there are 4,739 active cases, 54,497 people have recovered and 984 people have died. The death rate remains at 1.6%

22% of the coronavirus cases in SC are 21 to 30 year olds. The next highest number is 31 to 40 year olds at 16%.

There are currently 1,550 hospital beds occupied by patients who have either tested positive or are under investigation for COVID-19, and 203 of those patients are currently on ventilators
