The estimated recovery rate from the coronavirus in South Carolina has risen to 81%. The number has been in the high 70’s for the past several weeks.
890 new cases were announced by SC-DHEC, Tuesday afternoon. 27 of those cases were from York County, 7 were from Lancaster County and 5 were from Chester County. 5,122 people were tested on Monday and 17.2% tested positive.
There have been 26,572 cases since the pandemic began. Based on the 81% recovery rate there are 4,921 active cases of COVID-19 and 20,978 people have recovered.
SC-DHEC also announced 14 additional deaths, 11 occurred in elderly individuals and 3 occurred in middle-aged individuals. The death total is now 673.
There are currently 824 beds occupied by patients who either tested positive or are under investigation for COVID-19. Currently the statewide hospital bed utilization rate is 72.29%.
