Almost a thousand new cases of COVID-19 were reported by SC-DHEC on Thursday as State Epidemiologist Dr. Linda Bell encouraged the public to wear a mask in public and stay socially distanced from others. 987 is the highest daily number of cases reported since the pandemic began.
29 of the new cases are from York County, 7 are from Lancaster County and 1 is from Chester County. Charleston, Greenville and Horry County each had one day increases of over 100 cases. 6,854 people were tested for the virus on Wednesday and 14.4% tested positive. The total number of cases since the pandemic began is 21,533.
SC-DHEC also reported 4 additional deaths including 2 in Lancaster County. One occurred in an elderly individual while the other occurred in a middle-aged individual.
Bell said, “”Every one of us has a role to play in stopping COVID-19. This virus does not spread on its own. It’s spread around our state by infected people who carry it wherever they go– their work, the supermarket, the post office, a friend’s house. By not following public health precautions, many are putting all at risk. It is essential that each of us, every day, wear a mask in public and stay physically distanced from others”
