147 new cases of COVID-19 were reported on Tuesday, bringing the state total to 7,927. Of those new cases 15 were from York County and 4 were from Lancaster County.

York County now has 258 cases and Lancaster County has 115. Chester County had no new cases and their total sits at 39.

SC-DHEC is also reporting 9 additional deaths. 8 of those deaths occurred in elderly individuals from Darlington (2), Florence (1), Richland (2), Spartanburg (1) and Williamsburg (2) counties. One occurred in a middle-aged individual in Aiken (1) County. The death toll has risen to 355.

As part of their statewide testing initiative SC-DHEC’s goal is to test 2% of the population or 110,000 South Carolinians every month and they are on track to achieve that for the month of May.

Tuesday’s report from SC-DHEC estimates a COVID-19 recovery rate of 86%. That means there are roughly 1,110 active cases of COVID-19 in SC.  The estimate comes from onset data from 6,032 of the individuals who have contracted the disease.
