A 5th individual has died from the coronavirus in York County. The death was in an elderly individual who was one of 9 deaths reported by SC-DHEC, Wednesday afternoon.
All of those deaths occurred in elderly individuals in Allendale (1), Charleston (1), Florence (2), Lexington (1), Richland (2), Williamsburg (1), and York (1) counties. The death total is now 305.
SC-DHEC is also reporting an additional 97 cases of the coronavirus, bringing the state total to 6,936. Of the new cases 2 are from York County and 3 are from Lancaster County. York County now has a total of 222 cases and Lancaster County has 99. Chester County had no new cases and remains at a total of 34.
It was announced yesterday that SC-DHEC plans to increase their focus in testing, including the state’s nursing homes, which will include roughly 40,000 people.
