In an email to the Winthrop community, the University said they are in contact with their students studying abroadm but have not yet called any of them home in light of the coronavirus.

The CDC earlier this week recommended that higher education institutions consider postponing or canceling upcoming student foreign exchange programs and consider asking current program participants to return to their home country.

Winthrop said they are closely monitoring the situation and the health and safety of the University’s students, faculty and staff remain their top priority,  Winthrop is also asking students and employees who choose to travel to countries identified by the U.S. State Department as a Level 3 or Level 4 threat, to self-quarantine for at least 14 days upon returning to the United States.

Clemson University announced earlier this week they would be suspending their study abroad programs, bringing almost 400 students home.
