York County Council chairman Michael Johnson has announced he will be running for a Senate seat this coming year, according to his campaign website.
Johnson will be running for a seat in District 16, which will be vacated by Republican Greg Gregory who will not be seeking re-election in 2020. The District 16 seat covers York and Lancaster counties. Tega Cay businessman Tom Nichols and Indian Land community leader Mike Neese, both Republicans, will also be running for the Senate seat. Candidate filing begins on March 16th.
Johnson is currently serving as the York County Council Chairman. Fort Mill School Board Member Tom Audette announced back in December he would be running to replace Johnson in District 1 on County Council.
