One person was killed and two were injured in a head-on crash in York County on New Year’s Eve, according to the S.C. Highway Patrol. The collision happened around 7 p.m. Tuesday on S.C. 5 about six miles south of Rock Hill.
The crash involved a Kia sedan and a box truck. The sedan was heading south on the highway near the Catawba River and the Lancaster County line when it went left of center and hit the truck head-on.
The driver of the Kia was not wearing a seat belt and died at the scene. The fatality was the 49th on York County roads in 2019, according to the S.C. Department of Public Safety. Statewide, at least 979 people died in crashes in 2019
