The Rock Hill Police Department Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction Team (STAR Team) is investigating an overnight fatal car accident on West Main and Watson Streets in Rock Hill. Wednesday evening at approximately 12:07 AM officers with the Rock Hill Police Department received a report of a reckless driver in the area of West Main St. and Heckle Blvd. A citizen reported a Nissan was traveling at high speed on West Main St. traveling toward downtown Rock Hill. A few moments later, RHPD received calls at West Main and Watson St. for a vehicle that crashed into the woods. Upon arrival officers located a 2013 Nissan Altima in the wooded area. Officers found the driver deceased and partially ejected from the vehicle. The RHPD STAR Team was called out to investigate. The investigation to this point indicates that the vehicle was travelling toward town on W. Main St. when it ran off the right side of the road, struck a stop sign and then hit a large tree. The accident cause is still under investigation, and is the 7th fatal traffic accident inside the City Limits of Rock Hill this year. There were no other occupants in the vehicle. The York County Coroners Office will provide the identity of the driver when it becomes available according to a press release from the Rock Hill police Department.
