A crowd of around 200 donors, dignitaries, and supporters were on hand as Keystone Substance Abuse Services of York County officially opened the new Herb Kirsh Youth Center Thursday evening.

“This youth center will serve the need of youth and their families that struggle with substance abuse issues here in York County. This center will give them hope.” according to Janet Martini, the Executive Director of Keystone Substance Abuse Services.

Statistics show that Keystone currently serves close to 5,000 youth each year.  The over 5,000 square foot facility will house several group meeting rooms, offices, and “The Good Folks of York County Activity Center”, named for those that provided funding and support for the project.

The new center was named for the late State Representative Herb Kirsh who, along with S.C. Senator Wes Hayes and S.C. Representative Gary Simrill, was imperative to procuring state funding to aid with making this project a reality.

Keystone raised around 29 thousand dollarsa at their chocolate fundraiser last week…which is their biggest fundraiser to date.
