One of the leaders of the group Concerned Black Men of Rock Hill says he’s disturbed by the fact that five or ten unmarked vehicles used by the Rock Hill police department don’t have cameras inside.
Local attorney Brad Rawlinson told dozens of people during a forum Tuesday night that Rock Hill police chief Chris Watts has met four of the group’s ten demands.
Rawlinson says the group will take action if those demands are NOT met.
“I think we’re going to institute a complaint drive, we’re going to be out-fitting some vehicles in certain neighborhoods with cameras, we’re going to be doing active surveillance on their patrols, and we’re going to be doing some aggressive things that I’m not going to discuss that’s part of any successful operation.”
Rawlinson says a lawsuit could be filed and political action could be taken.
He says in the minds of a lot of people, the Rock Hill police department has failed in its mission to build trust, respect and accountability.
As to whether that’s the fault of the police, Rawlinson says that’s complicated.
