It was announced by Winthrop University earlier today that Debra Boyd will step away from her position as the provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs, effective June 30th of next year.

Boyd will be taking a year-long sabbatical before returning as a professor in the English department.  She came to Winthrop in 1984 and has held her provost position since 2011.  Among her many roles, Boyd served as the acting Winthrop President from 2014 to 2015.

The Winthrop Board of trustees noted Boyd’s outstanding leadership and guidance to her colleagues during that time.  Boyd said she is deeply appreciative to have been part of the campus community, but now she has the opportunity and privilege to complete her Winthrop career where it began, in the classroom.

A national search will be conducted for the next provost led by a committee, including faculty, staff and student representatives.
