A fallen Lancaster County deputy will be laid to rest today at 2 pm at Second Baptist Church.  The deputy who had served the community for more than 25 years died in the line of duty Tuesday night after collapsing following a training event.

Deputy James Kirk Jr. died at Springs Memorial Hospital after collapsing during the training event at the sheriff’s office firing range. He died from what appears to be a medical condition, Sheriff Barry Faile said.

Kirk served the citizens of Lancaster County for the past 28 years. He began his career at the Lancaster Police Department and retired from that agency after 25 years of service.

He joined the sheriff’s office in 2015.  Kirk was 57 years old.
