Rock Hill has had its first homicide of the year, and it was outside the same building where a Winthrop University fraternity party was taking place at 1 a.m. Saturday.  According to WRHI’s news partner CN2 An Omega Psi Phi fraternity party was held at the old American Legion on Constitution and Cherry Road.

The York County Coroner says the 24-year-old male, Eric Williams, was was transported to Piedmont Medical Center in Rock Hill by unknown means and then passed away over the weekend.

The party was advertised using the Winthrop Chapter of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, but members of that chapter say they do not know the man who was shot, or believe he was a student.  Winthrop University offered up a statement that said

“The Omega Psi Phi fraternity was affiliated with a party held Friday night at the American Legion Building on Cherry Road. It was not a Winthrop University-sponsored event and was held off campus.  Upon learning that one of our fraternities was affiliated, we immediately began investigating the circumstances of the party and what resulted in a tragic loss of life” said Jeff Perez, VP of University Relations.

Rock Hill Police are asking anyone with information to reach out to them.
